Glenda Kilpatrick’s love of cats and other pets is reflected in the name of her business, “Whiskers Wine & Spirits”. The name was a result of accidentally cutting off her cat’s whiskers as she trimmed knots from his neck.
Shopping at Whiskers is a pet-friendly experience and you may be greeted by Jack Daniels, Glenda’s rescue cat.
Whiskers Wine & Spirits is a supporter of the Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby County . Money has been raised with wine tastings and from the sale of wines with animal related names; such as, DOG HOUSE, FAT CAT, YARD DOG and CHATEAU LA PAWS.
Whiskers also helps find homes for rescued animals by placing a picture with a phone number on the counter area. In just four months, 12 dogs, 10 cats, 1 horse, 2 guinea pigs, and 1 bird found new homes.
The pet friendly atmosphere does not end there. In memory of pets that have passed away, one wall features the RAINBOW BRIDGE. This wall is based on a poem by an anonymous author. The meadow at the base of the bridge is where a pet goes when it dies and waits for its owner so they may crossover the RAINBOW BRIDGE into heaven together. Customers are invited to place pictures of their beloved pets on the wall. The RAINBOW BRIDGE wall and its meaning are meant to bring comfort to pet owners about the animals they miss.

They also provide a program where they donate a percentage of certain wine sales to the Memphis Humane Society to help with the care of pets until they find a new home.
